About Us

Harmonize is a mixed choir based in Cwmbran, South Wales.

The choir was originally founded in 1979 as New Harmony Singers, with sixteen voices, under Pamela Guy BEM as Musical Director and Heather Langdon as Accompanist. After celebrating our 40th anniversary in 2019 Dan Davis took over the role of accompanist and his brother Chris took on the role of Assistant Musical Director. Following our return from the enforced break caused by the Covid pandemic Pam took the decision to retire with Chris moving into the role of Musical Director and it was decided to change the choir's performance name to Harmonize to reflect the new chapter.

Over the years the choir has undertaken successful tours of Germany, America, Italy, France, Ireland, Scotland and Belgium. Our most recent tour was in 2018 to the Isle of Wight and we are looking forward to arranging our next one having had to cancel a planned trip to Yorkshire back in 2020. In 2023 our performances included a charity fundraising concert for Latch Welsh Children's Cancer Charity, organised by one of our younger members, at Our Lady & St. Michael's Church, Abergavenny; joint concerts for Sororitas female voice choir at Mount Pleasant Hall and Soul'd As Seen in St. Julians; a charity concert  for Soroptimists in Ponthir and performing carols at several Christmas tree lightings and care homes around Cwmbran. We already have quite a few events arranged for 2024 and these will be added to our concerts page when confirmed. If you have an event that you would like Harmonize to perform at please email our concert secretary Chris on harmonizeconcerts@gmail.com

Harmonize are a registered charity (under our official name of New Harmony Singers) but perform regularly for other charities and voluntary organisations. To date the choir has raised in excess of £500,000.00 for those charities. The choir has also made several recordings, the most recent of which was released in December 2013.

Our repertoire is quite mixed with a range of musical theatre, pop, jazz and some traditional songs, including Welsh classics, performed over the years and is evolving under the leadership of the dynamic duo, Chris and Dan with old favourites being resurrected and new pieces being started.

We currently have around 35 members and have been fortunate to have several new additions over the last 12 months. However, more members are always welcome. In particular we would welcome more men to join our tenor and bass sections. If you are interested in joining please feel free to come along to rehearsal on a Sunday evening at St. Mary's Church, 6 Church Cl, Cwmbran NP44 2EJ. We rehearse from 6.30pm to 8.00pm. You can come and join in to see how you get on or simply listen to decide if it is for you. Please email harmonizechoir@gmail.com for further information.
